Groundswell, a site-specific installation by artists Lori Kella and Michael Loderstedt, celebrates the community gardens in Lakewood through a series of fictionalized photographs and screen-printed paper houses. Loderstedt’s paper houses revel in the beauty, color, and abundance of urban gardens by recreating suspended sections of the suburban landscape. Using Loderstedt’s houses as props, Kella’s photographs reimagine bountiful backyards and community spaces as they shift throughout the seasons. Along with a series of events that focus on gardening and healthy eating, this exhibition hopes to inspire the neighborhood to grow and eat locally.
